Bucks send bulls on vacation

Corrected twice in a row at former United Center, the Bulls, led 3-1, are back at the wall and must definitely win this Game 5 in Milwaukee to keep their (poor) hopes of qualifying in the second round alive. Without Zach LaVine, placed in solitary confinement, or Alex Caruso, who is hit in the head during Game 4, the task would be difficult.

Unfortunately for Chicago, no miracles happened. Without the points of the first and the defense of the second, the Bulls are too short on both sides of the field from the first half, and they are already so far behind that it is almost impossible to catch up at the break: -18 (60-42! Despite the good Nikola Vucevic, the Bulls scored only 42 points during the first half, while the Bucks lost (60 points).

The second period is more balanced, and won by Chicago (58-56), who finds a little rhythm in attack but still suffers from the striking power of the Bucks, such as Giannis Antetokounmpo who collected 33 points and 9 rebounds. In just 30 minutes. The final difference is 16 points (116-100) at the end of “garbage time”, and Milwaukee easily wins this game 5, which is synonymous with a validated ticket for the second round.

Except for the arrogance reaction in Game 2, the Bulls will generally be crushed in the series, outperforming both the offensive and defensive quality of the Bucks, who will meet the Celtics in the conference semi-finals. A brutal and certainly bitter end to the season for Billy Donovan’s men, whose early part of the season heralded many good things.

But physical glitches and a drop in speed as playoffs approached took their toll on the Bulls, who were relegated to sixth place and inherited the Bucks in the first round, who didn’t have the slightest chance in front of them.

What to remember

Bulls sign franchise register in case of loss. Proceeded poorly before the meeting due to Zach Lavigne’s absence, the Bulls decided to open the gates in 3 pointers, to attempt an opportunity to undermine the Bucks’ defense. With 52 outside shots attempted, Billy Donovan’s men set a new playoff record. The only problem: the bulls converted only 15 of those shots (28.8%)…

There is still a semi-final conference. The Bulls have not made it through the first round of the playoffs since 2015. That year, they managed to eliminate the Bucks with precision before the Cavs of LeBron James lost them.

tops/swings

Giannis Antikonmo. In less than half an hour, the Greek came close to doubling the double, with 33 points (11/15) and 9 rebounds. Against the Bulls, the double MVP warmed up, before facing the very good Celtics defense in the next round, who are coming off a perfect streak this side of the field, especially against Kevin Durant. The Greek visitor was warned: Boston is not Chicago and you won’t let it thrive so easily.

Pat Connaughton. After Grayson Allen, it was the turn of the former Notre Dame player to play the role of “super-sub”. Precious by his external title (6/7), like the previous Blue Devil, the winger celebrated over the links established by Giannis Antetokounmpo in the Bulls racket. He finished with 20 points on 7/11.

Bobby Portez. The Fiserve Habibie was still very prominent, with 14 points and 17 rebounds. Holder since the second game, after Chris Middleton was injured in the first game, is having fun with the hosts and allowing the Bucks to gain a size advantage in the big 5.

Couples Williams and Vucevic. The Chicago pivot was the most consistent bull in attack in the series. In this last match, he fought and gave everything, and signed the final double (19 points and 16 rebounds). As for the winger, he scored 23 points by playing on a wider scale. promising for next season.

⛔️ Demar DeRozan. After a regular MVP-caliber season, the winger took a cold shower during this playoff, facing the Bucks defense. Never quite comfortable attacking except for Game 2, “Depo” didn’t weigh as well as he would have liked. His season ends with his last anecdotal outing: 11 points in 43 minutes, 5/10 in shots.
