Apple tests the future M3 chip on the iMac

2

iMac fans may need to be patient, as the release of the new iteration may take some time.

We told you about it recently, the M2 chip is in preparation for many devices of the Apple brand. While the announcement of the new Mac Mini, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro 13 could take place at WWDC 2022 in June, the Cupertino company is already preparing for the sequel.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gorman, whose information is often reliable, reported in the Power On letter that the company was testing a future M3 chip in the iMac in addition to the M2 chips found in nine other devices.

Bad news for iMac

Note that the iMac is not on the list of devices tested with the upcoming new M2 chip, which means the Apple computer won’t see a new iteration with the actual release of the M3 chip “before the end of next year, at the earliest.”

How does the pricing table work?

This means that at best, a new iMac should not be expected before late 2023 at best. Thus, hopes of seeing an iMac showcased at WWDC are increasingly slim given that it would be surprising if the brand would offer an update to a PC with a chip from last year at an event aimed at developers.

Undo for a better blast

iMac tends to go through a longer development cycle than some of the more popular models like the MacBook Pro. If this information thus proves correct, there will be more than two years of difference between the iMac 2021 and its successor.

On the bright side, this delay will allow users of the device to make a good two generations, from M1 to M3, which will significantly increase performance.

Finally, Gurman added a small note of hope for those who regretted the end of production for the 27-inch iMac. In fact, according to him, the iMac Pro should arrive, even if it is not currently.

So we shouldn’t have any news from the iMac during WWDC in June, but it’s not excluded that Apple will follow up on a “medium” update during the fall keynote. Again for the fans, just one word: patience.
