“There is no need for surgery or injections”. LeBron James gave an update on his health during his last interview marking the end of the 2021/22 season, as he was somewhat reassured about his left ankle, which would simply require four to six weeks of rest.
Impressed on March 27 during the meeting against the Pelicans, King also confided that the condition of his ankle had worsened after his hasty return to the courts to face New Orleans again five days later, with a qualifying in the playing streak, eventually missed by the Lakers.
An injury prevented him from playing by the end of the Lakers’ season and reaching the minimum number of matches needed to appear in the various statistical rankings. He clearly wasn’t looking forward to playing two more games to try and outsmart Joel Embiid as the NBA’s top scorer.
“I will not play goalless matches just to win the top scorer title. He will not be worthy of me and my career.
“Once we were out of the play-off competition, it didn’t even cross my mind. I wouldn’t play useless matches just to win the top scorer title.” It is to explain. “He wouldn’t be worthy of me and my career. (…) Honestly, for me, after 19 years of my career, winning the title while being eliminated from the playoffs would have been the most delirious thing in history.”
After that, he must have been asked about Russell Westbrook because the transplant hadn’t taken place. LeBron James was behind this access, which is a huge mistake.
“The results were not there, but it is not a failure” confirms however. “At the end of the day, the reason we weren’t good together is because we weren’t together on that damn stadium. That’s reason #1. How many games did we play together? We played a quarter of the season together? Less than a quarter of the season? Played more games at school high school with my old teammates. To answer his question, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook played 21 games together, the record was positive: 11 wins – 10 losses. It is far from an exception.
He adds of Russell Westbrook: The one thing I love about Russell, and always will, is the competitive spirit he shows every night. We are in a company where there are a lot of injuries and a lot of things happen, and having a reliable guy like this who works every night is something I respect.
