Some have questioned whether the excavation of the excellent (90% Metacritic) 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim on Switch would have given.
What 13 Sentinels fans are most curious about is how well the Switch handles destruction mode. Turning on Destruction mode on the base PS4, and even the occasional PS4 Pro, can cause a dangerous drop in frame rate when the screen starts filling up with enemies. Before this port came out, I was wondering if the adapter would be able to handle some of the more intense battles. The answer Vanillaware gave me was, yes, it can. Overall, the Switch version works basically the same way it does on the base PS4, and maybe a little better. There was also apparently no decrease in the number of enemies during battles either, which would be one way of helping the Switch’s performance. Various kaiju skins still fill the screen, and the infamous “Missile Rain” attack still lags the game a bit, but I’m impressed with the Switch’s overall performance in this game.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim has found a perfect home on the Nintendo Switch with a combination of two genres that work best when handheld – visual novel and RTS. I ended up carrying the Switch with me for days on end as 13 Sentinels was such a good book that I just couldn’t put it down. Gorgeous hand-drawn graphics and an intricate layered storyline marry together beautifully to create a love letter to classic science fiction.

The story splitting helps ensure overall consistency, but this comes at a price: While 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is an excellent game, which we’d recommend without hesitation, it’s not the kind for long sessions. It should be eaten in moderation, taking regular breaks. Briefly, Just the right title type for Nintendo Switch ; The PlayStation 4 is clearly not the best support for such a game, even if it does not come out poorly, the ability to maneuver with a joystick for example is quite enough during battles. So don’t think you’ll make it to the end of the 30 hour game offer in a week, but that’s good: 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a unique and unforgettable experience that is well worth enjoying while you take your time.

Happy. The Switch was without a doubt the perfect console to host an adventure of this magnitude.. The 2D graphics of the combo stages (which also evoke the earlier Vanillaware games), and the more demanding battles from a graphical point of view, everything works great on the Nintendo hybrid console. No slowdown, frame rate drop, or quality drop is reported for this version which is simply perfect for your laptop. Being able to follow these characters’ stories on the go is simply amazing, and we sincerely hope that this port will be successful enough to encourage Vanillaware and Atlus to port their other games to console in the near future, because the work done here is simply exemplary. The Switch version has nothing to envy from the PS4 version.
