On the occasion of MWC 2022, Huawei lifted the veil on two new computers (MateBook X Pro 2022 and MateBook 16) and introduced Smart Office, a new solution to make its devices work better together.
Every year, Huawei develops the interface of various devices in its ecosystem a little more. The manufacturer is gradually moving towards a unified and interconnected system. According to him, his main goal is to bring harmony between smartphones, tablets and computers in particular, but also to facilitate the daily life of users.
Thus, the “Smart Office” provides an integrated ecosystem, allowing for example to display smartphone content on a computer screen, drawing on a tablet while modifying its creation in real time on a computer, or choosing a dual screen either using a monitor or a TV. Thus, the manufacturer continues the integration efforts that began several years ago with the Huawei Share functionality.
This “super device” mode is now available on all compatible devices. Just download version 12.0.2 of PC Manager. On the sidelines of this smart office, Huawei took advantage of MWC 2022 to present several new products, including the MateBook 16 and MateBook X Pro computers, which we will explain in detail in the following lines.
MateBook 16: a productivity laptop
With the development of remote work, the demand for 16-inch laptops is increasing. As for its new range, Huawei therefore could not ignore such a diameter. After last year’s Huawei MateBook D16, the manufacturer is now drawing the MateBook 16 2022. As such, it offers a screen with a resolution of 2.5K (2520 x 1680 pixels), a 3:2 format, and a brightness of 300 nits. Remember, the 2021 D16 offers a classic 16/9 format. According to the manufacturer, the newcomer’s screen emits very little blue light, which makes it an asset for extended daily use. Additionally, this newcomer is relatively thin and light at just 17.8mm thick and weighs just 1.99kg.
To ensure a good level of performance, it is powered by an octa-core AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor, which is said to be 20% more efficient than its predecessor. The device also includes a new cooling system consisting of two fans, two heat pipes and a heat sink. And when the user is working on tasks that require power, a turbo mode is provided for this. The MateBook 16 runs on Windows 10 Home, but can easily be upgraded to Windows 11. It also comes with two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, two USB-C ports, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm jack.
In terms of audio, it is equipped with two 2-watt speakers, as well as microphones paired with AI noise cancellation to avoid echoes during video calls. The 720p HD camera is still built into a key on the keyboard.
Finally, Huawei estimates autonomy at around 12.5 hours. It is based on an 84W battery. At the moment, the brand has not announced the price and availability date of its MateBook 16.
MateBook X Pro 2022: The Most Exclusive
A few years ago, when Huawei was still a relative newcomer in the laptop world, it made a name and reputation for itself with its MateBook X Pro. This new generation flagship device from the manufacturer runs instantly on Windows 11 and comes with very thin lines. It can be transported easily as it is only 5.4mm thick and 1.38kg in weight.
Despite everything, it has a magnified touchscreen that ranges from 13.9 inches in the 2021 model to 14.2 inches in the new version, to a definition of 3120 x 2080 pixels. As a bonus, it offers a 90Hz refresh rate and a brightness boost to 500 nits. Colors will also be more intense and subtle than the previous model, according to Huawei.
Like the MateBook 16, the MateBook X Pro 2022 benefits from a new cooling system that increases heat dissipation by 100%.
In the context of professional use, it introduces a new feature to the touchpad, with support for gesture controls for, for example, taking screenshots or quickly adjusting the volume. Moreover, the MateBook X Pro 2022 has no less than 6 speakers to simulate spatial sound. A 6-megapixel HD camera is also included in the video conferencing software.
Finally, the MateBook X Pro 2022 benefits from 90W fast charging and 4 USB-C ports. It is also possible to charge your smartphone with a power of 50W.
This is the most advanced model in the entire MateBook range. It is offered at €1,899 with an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage.
