The race for MVP | Which suitor shines more against others?

For ten years now, I’ve shown you the USA Basket top 5 Nominees for the “Most Valuable Player” award (best player).” With less than a week left until the end of the regular season, for what is (really) the last weekly point of the campaign, it is time to discuss the various confrontations between the top players in this fiscal year 2021/22.

To do this, we decided to keep clashes only between those who, in our opinion, are best able to win the prestigious statue of Maurice Podolov. In other words, in this order: Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokonmo, Devin Booker, Luka Doncic, Jason Tatum, Demar DeRozan and Ja Morant.

Therefore, there is no Kevin Durant or LeBron James, far from guaranteed play in the playoffs with the Nets and Lakers. Same for Stephen Curry or Chris Paul, out of the race with their injuries, while the Warriors and Suns are pinned to the top three in the West.

In addition, only matches in which the two candidates for the title of best player in each camp were taken into account here. Obviously, if Sixers faced Nuggets without Joel Embiid and/or Nikola Jokic on the floor, that meeting is not on our balance sheet.

Favorite Nikola Jokic now?

Overall, the team’s results are quite mixed, with Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmue, Jason Tatum and Ja Morant, for example, having just over 50% of wins, with the Sixers, Bucks, Celtics and Grizzlies, despite their high-profile showings Aviation.

On the other hand, Devin Booker and especially Luka Doncic stand out collectively, with the Suns and the Mavericks, in addition to the individual brilliance. Absolutely unlike Nikola Jokic, he is certainly personally radioactive, but logically suffers from nuggets, without his main assistants. It’s even worse for DeMar DeRozan, whose Bulls are struggling to truly compete for the top of the league, despite the scoring cards he has.

The results which in the end are quite representative, as they are in line with the results of Phoenix (28-11), Memphis (24-15), Boston (26-18), Dallas (24-18), Milwaukee (21-23), Philadelphia (25 -22), Denver (16-25) and Chicago (19-24), when challenging positive teams (50 +% wins) …

It remains to be seen whether these balance sheets can influence voters’ choices at polling time. Remember that in the state, Nikola Jokic finds himself acclaimed by the majority of American specialized media, such as NBA.com, ESPN or Basketball-Reference.
